Hasya Yoga: Laughter as Medicine
Have you ever heard of Hasya Yoga? I hadn't, but I read an article in the Yoga Journal today that touted the benefits of this new type of yoga developed by Madan Kataria, an Indian-based physician and author of "Laugh for No Reason." Hasya Yoga is a type of laughter therapy that combines deep, controlled breathing with stretching and belly laughter.
I'm mentioning this because yoga is popular in integrative medicine, a cancer treatment approach I find very appealing. Clinics and medical centers that offer integrative medicine involve a variety of healthcare professionals in your care, including oncologists, surgeons, psychologists, physical therapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, and yes, even yoga practitioners. To learn more about Hasya Yoga, you may want to read "What's So Funny?" in the Yoga Journal.
