I just found out that my father has colon cancer. It's stage 3 and I'm at a loss and scared. I just don't know what to do. Can you please help me? I would really appreciate it. I just don't know what to do.

The best, most loving thing you can do is support your father. Talk to him, listen to him, and look for information you think may help him. If you're able, go to his doctor appointments with him so you can learn more details, ask questions, and make sure there's one more person who has a chance to hear what the doctor says about his stage 3 cancer.

This site is a good source of supplemental information. If you're looking for basic information about colon cancer, you may want to begin with What is Colorectal Cancer? You might also want to read Colon Cancer Treatment Options to learn about the roles of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation in colon cancer treatment. In addition, your dad (and you) may benefit from reading a book called Positive Options for Colorectal Cancer. It provides a no-BS version of colorectal cancer treatment as told by many survivors with different stories.

The Colon Cancer Forum can be a good place to raise questions and talk to people going through a similar situation. There's a thread specifically for stage 3 colon cancer. You may want to give it a try.

I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Best of luck to you and your father.

Please remember that I am not a medical professional. I offer my input as a neighbor, a friend, sitting at the kitchen table talking about what's on your mind and trying to help if I can. This is not medical advice. Please don't consider it medical advice or pass it on to others as medical advice. Thanks.
