Anatomy of the Large Intestine

The main components of the large intestine include the appendix, cecum, colon, rectum, anal canal, and anus. The main function of the large intestine is to transport waste out of the body and to absorb water from the waste before it leaves. Cancer can occur in any of these components and sometimes spreads to the liver and lungs as well.
