Asbestos and Colon Cancer Risk

While some studies have established a clear link between asbestos exposure and colon cancer, others have found no relationship between the two whatsoever. So, researchers are still trying to determine if asbestos exposure is a risk factor for colon cancer.

Some studies indicate that asbestos exposure increases a person's risk of developing colorectal cancer. However, the evidence isn't clear enough to say that yes, asbestos definitely causes cancer of the colon and rectum.
Study Assesses Link Between Asbestos and Colorectal Cancer
While some studies have established a clear link between asbestos exposure and colorectal cancer, others have found no relationship between the two whatsoever. To address this issue, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies assessed more than 120 studies in an effort to determine once and for all, if asbestos causes cancer of the throat and digestive system.
Lawsuit Claims Asbestos Caused Oil Refinery Worker's Colon Cancer
An article in The Southeast Texas Record talked about a recent lawsuit filed on behalf of William Holmes, an oil refinery worker who died from colon cancer about a year ago. The plaintiff (Joy Holmes) is suing Chevron and Texaco for exposing William to asbestos during his employment at one of their oil refineries, which she believes ultimately caused him to develop colon cancer.
