Researchers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute studied more than 800 patients with stage 3 colon cancer. Everyone received standard chemotherapy and surgery, but some patients also took 325 mg of aspirin daily (or every other day). The study found that the aspirin group enjoyed a reduction in recurrence about 50% beyond what was achieved by chemotherapy alone after surgery.

Almost sound too good to be true?

Good eye. The researchers stressed that this was only a preliminary study and more trials are needed to confirm the benefit. They recommended against adding aspirin to treatment regimens until additional studies are conducted.
