Choosing a Colon Surgeon

The Archives of Surgery reported that patients whose surgeons had performed the most colon cancer surgeries endured fewer complications than patients whose surgeons had performed the least. (The patients had stage 1, stage 2, or stage 3 colon cancer.)

The researchers also linked better outcome to the variety of clinical services offered at the hospital - more so than the number of colon cancer surgeries performed there. They think it's because a hospital with more services is better able to address any complications that may arise.
