Avastin is the brand name for bevacizumab, a drug that targets a type of protein (VEGF) found in many tumors. By doing so, it helps prevent tumors from spreading to other locations in the body, or metastasizing.
Avastin can be used to treat colon and kidney cancer, and is usually given with traditional chemotherapy drugs.
