Definition:

A chemotherapy schedule is your doctor's way of killing cancer as quickly and effectively as possible while minimizing the damage to the healthy tissues in your body. Chemotherapy is usually given in on-and-off cycles to allow your body time to gain strength before the next round of chemo.

Your doctor designs your chemotherapy schedule to ensure that full doses of cancer-fighting drugs are administered as frequently as possible without creating side effects that are so severe you decide to stop treatment.

It's important to discuss adjusting your chemotherapy schedule with your doctor if you find the side effects unmanageable, or if you aren't experiencing any side effects at all. In both instances, your doctor may want to adjust your schedule to achieve better balance.
