About Wendy:

Wendy is married and the proud mother of three yellow labs. She lives in Burlington, Ontario, and worked as an insurance broker before going on disability. While in her late 30's, Wendy went to her doctor because she had chronic constipation and rectal bleeding.

Wendy's Barium Enema Experience:

Wendy said that although she wanted a colonoscopy, her doctor referred her for a barium enema. She told me the barium enema prep was terrible, as she was too constipated to eliminate the stool. Her barium enema experience occurred in May of 2001 and her insurance, Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), covered the entire cost.

Results of Wendy's Barium Enema:

The doctor told her everything was fine, but Wendy has a different opinion.

Wendy's Thoughts on Her Barium Enema Experience:

I wouldn't have a barium enema again. I asked for a colonoscopy and wish I'd had one. In January of 2006, at age 40, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to my liver. The barium enema missed the polyp/cancer.
